Hi.
I am playing around with Windows Vista Beta 2 b5308 since I just installed it today. I have no network due to lack of network driver according to Device Manager. Ethernet Controller shows a yellow "!".
Where can I get the driver from? According to Windows XP, it uses a Yukon Marvell network driver. I have not found a Vista driver on the Internet. I also do not have the original CD/disks that came with this motherboard/computer.
Thank you in advance. :) -- Phillip Pi Senior Software Quality Assurance Analyst ISP/Symantec Online Services Symantec Corporation www.symantec.com ----------------------------------------------------- Email: phillip_pi@symantec.comSYMC (remove SYMC to reply by e-mail) ----------------------------------------------------- Please do NOT e-mail me for technical support. Unable to get network working due to lack of network driver.
I have the same network card. It might be worth trying the 64 bit XP drivers that are available, but there is no guarantee that they will work. I don't think the Vista drivers have been released yet.
Forgot to say that I'm not testing Vista myself as yet.
You could try using the Windows XP driver or check the manufacturers website for available drivers or beta drivers that currently support Windows Vista. At least get in touch with the manufacturer to make them aware of the issue. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Uh, where are those 64-bit XP drivers at? OK. Could you send me a copy of Symantec AntiVirus for Vista by e-mail since you work there? :) -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

It installed, but it doesn't seem to find the Internet. I cannot connect to any Web sites. Pinging seems to work. Accessing my Linksys router (192.168.1.1) via Web (IE7) doesn't seem to work.

Set your IP address to static and see if that work. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

What have you entered as your primary DNS server? If you use your routers address as primary DNS, try adding your Internet Service Providers DNS servers as alternate DNS servers in your network settings. This worked for me in 64bit XP.

If you mean DNS as shown in ipconfig.exe, then it was grabbed from the Linksys router that got it from the company's network router(?). I can say XP, 2K, 9x, etc. have no problems. I am thinking it is a Vista's issue somewhere. -- Phillip Pi Senior Software Quality Assurance Analyst ISP/Symantec Online Services Symantec Corporation www.symantec.com ----------------------------------------------------- Email: phillip_pi@symantec.comSYMC (remove SYMC to reply by e-mail) ----------------------------------------------------- Please do NOT e-mail me for technical support. That worked partially. I used 192.168.1.123 since I know it is unused and the Linksys router is 192.168.1.1. I was able to access the router's administration Web pages, but not the Internet. I even added two DNS addresses that the company and other non-prerelease OS' use. I tried http://66.102.7.147 (Google's Web site) and that failed.
Weird. Maybe I will just wait for the next major update before playing around with Vista. :) -- Phillip Pi Senior Software Quality Assurance Analyst ISP/Symantec Online Services Symantec Corporation www.symantec.com ----------------------------------------------------- Email: phillip_pi@symantec.comSYMC (remove SYMC to reply by e-mail) ----------------------------------------------------- Please do NOT e-mail me for technical support.
